Alan Pardew weighs up £6m bid
PSV Eindhoven defender Erik Pieters has revealed he is still unsure whether he will join Newcastle United before the transfer window closes Sky Sports understands.
The Dutch left back has been linked with a move to St James’ Park as a replacement for Jose Enrique but nothing has yet to materialise despite the clubs interest.
Pieters is keen to try his hand at the Premier League but is still waiting to hear whether Newcastle are going to make a move for him.
“The Premier League is a very good league to play in.” He said.
“I’m open to this step, it seems a great challenge. But if it fails, I am not disappointed.”
Pieters added: “My agent must report to me when it is really concrete. I have not heard yet, so I wait.”
Ryan Taylor has filled in at left back so far this season and scored the winner in the Tyne Wear derby on Saturday but Magpies boss Alan Pardew wants a specialist.
Pardew was in attendance during PSV’s game against ADO Den Haag on Sunday to run the rule over the 23-year-old.
The Eredivisie side have already confessed that they wouldn’t deny Pieters the chance to move to England paving the way for Newcastle.
It’s thought that Pardew was impressed by what he saw and is now considering whether to make a £6 million bid to land the defender.
